| NELMA Lumber Shipment Data Available Thru October | 2010-12-01 |
Overall shipment totals from NELMA’s softwood lumber mills for the first 10 months of 2010 increased 24% over the same period last year, according to the latest available data, totaling 616.5 million board feet. This includes a 33% increase in Dimension lumber shipments and a 16% increase for Eastern White Pine. The significant jump in Dimension lumber, year over year, can be attributed to the reopening of a couple of mills in late 2009 that had been closed for most of last year. However, the Eastern White Pine shipment data has steadily increased month to month as noted in a comparison for October, with 2010’s shipments outpacing 2009’s by 6% for the same month last year. An analysis with the same 10 months of 2008 indicate that 2010’s Dimension lumber shipments remain below shipments two years ago by 7% , with Eastern White Pine some 1.5% above 2008 through October. See Tables below to view the 3-year comparison of shipments by month for both Dimension and Eastern White Pine Lumber:
