Burlington, VT - The Northeastern Loggers' Association (NELA) recently honored Ronald Lamell, Sr. of Lamell Lumber in Essex Junction, Vermont as its 2007 Outstanding Sawmill Operator. NELA Secretary William Sayre presented the award to Lamell at the Annual Loggers' Banquet in Burlington, VT in a ceremony attended by over 200 members of the Northeast's forest products industry. "Lamell Lumber has always been a family run enterprise and today Ronald Lamell employs more than thirty people at his mill in Essex Junction" Sayre told the crowd. "They produce about 8 million board feet of mostly Eastern White Pine lumber each year, and they wholesale 90% of it up and down the east coast. All waste wood is ground in their tub grinder and used to fire their biomass boiler. Like most every other successful sawmill, Lamell Lumber finds a use for just about everything they take in. There is little or no waste."
"Clearly, Ronald Lamell, Sr. has something to be proud of. He's helped build a successful family business during some very challenging times - he's provided gainful employment and fulfilling work for dozens of people. And during all this he's built an excellent reputation, showing a commitment to safety and quality that has earned our respect and the respect of the entire forest products industry" Sayre concluded.
The Northeastern Loggers' Association, headquartered in Old Forge, NY, is a trade group representing over 2,000 members of the Northeast's logging, sawmilling, and paper industry. The Loggers' Banquet is held each year immediately prior to the Northeastern Forest Products Equipment Exposition.
